2024 Award and Bursary Application



 

2024 Brian Tardiff Education Bursary

The CGHA is proud to present to a graduating secondary school hockey player a bursary of seven hundred and fifty dollars ($750.00). The Brian Tardif Education Bursary is presented annually to a senior graduating player of the Cornwall Girls Hockey Association who is in her final year of secondary education and will be entering a post secondary institution. The bursary is a one-time award provided by the CGHA.

Brian Tardif was a long time volunteer with the Cornwall Girls Hockey Association dedicating twenty- two years at the local, regional and provincial levels. Brian's contribution was felt behind the bench as a coach and manager and at the executive level as Treasurer, President and Past President of the CGHA. At the regional level Brian was the District Representative and later the Director for Eastern Ontario at the OWHA level. Brian spent many years traveling to Toronto volunteering his time at the OWHA Provincial Championships.

Despite a diagnosis of ALS Brian continued to contribute his precious time with the Association and OWHA in various capacities and was always available for expert counsel.  Although Brian   passed away in 2016 at the age of 61, his contribution to the sport of girls hockey will always be felt.

Hickley Award 2024

The Suzanne Hickley award is presently annually to a graduating or senior member of the Cornwall Girls Hockey Association who demonstrates outstanding community involvement as well as strong dedication to the continued growth of girls hockey.

This award is named after Suzanne Hickley, a mother of twin girls who played hockey for the CGHA. A diagnosis of breast cancer was not enough to keep Suzanne from supporting her daughters at the rink or in the community. Her quiet demeanor and contagious smile was always present. Suzanne was an example of one who never put her life on hold despite the presence of cancer. She was a true inspiration to all who knew her.

In memory of Suzanne Hickley a seven hundred and fifty dollars ($750.00) to assist the player in pursuing educational opportunities at the post secondary level.The bursary is a one-time award provided by the CGHA.

ODWHA Elizabeth Stein Memorial Bursary Award 2022
Each year the ODWHA honours the memory of Elizabeth Stein and her enormous contribution to women’s hockey by providing the Elizabeth Stein Memorial Bursary to remarkable players who have made extraordinary contributions to hockey and the community.

2022 marks the 14th year of the bursary and up to four bursaries with a minimum value of $750 each will be awarded to ODWHA registered house league or competitive players who have demonstrated the following:

Leadership, integrity and dedication to women's hockey, academic achievement, and contribution to the community through volunteerism and support of volunteer organizations.

Ontario Hockey Federation Bursary
The Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) Bursary Program was introduced in 1997 to recognize and reward dedication in education and hockey. The program provides financial assistance to registered OHF participants to offset the cost of post-secondary education. In the past 23 years, the OHF has distributed more than $400,000 to over 450 post-secondary students.

Each year, the OHF awards bursaries to outstanding young people who display an incredible amount of commitment both at the arena and in the classroom. The bursary recipients are determined on the basis of academic achievements, hockey involvement and community involvement.
