The Cornwall Girls Hockey Association is pleased to announce the recipients of this years annual Bursary Awards.

The Awards were presented on Wednesday, May 10th at the Lions Club Banquet. Join us in celebrating the achievements of Ava Bellefeuille and Emily Bethune.

Suzanne Hickley Bursary Award Winner - Ava Bellefeuille

The Cornwall Girls Hockey Association Suzanne Hickley Bursary Award of $750.00 is presented annually to a graduating or senior player for outstanding achievement, athletic excellence and dedication to the sport of female hockey.

This year's recipient played for the U18AA Lady Royals hockey team. She started playing hock- ey with the Cornwall Girls Hockey Association at the age of 4 and hasn’t missed a single year. Throughout her 14 years of playing she has shown strong dedication,leadership, sportsmanship and determination. 

She has volunteered hundreds of hours to organizations such as the Williamstown fair, Equi- tation summer camps and St Lawrence school programs. In addition, her volunteering also included the Typhoons Tykes program and developmental clinics.

Her U18AA assistant coach stated that she was an encouraging role model for her teammates. She has always demonstrated her love for the game and her team. Her teachers described her as a model student with a passion for sport and invested in her pursuit of academic success. She is seen as a student who demonstrates leadership and professionalism and exemplifies the core values of her school community. As well, she is a voting member in the School Board Stu- dent Senate.

Her positive influence and enthusiasm for sport and academic excellence made her an ideal choice for the Suzanne Hickley Bursary Award.

This year's winner will be attending post- secondary studies at Algonquin College.

Brian Tardiff Bursary Award Winner- Emily Bethune 

The Cornwall Girls Hockey Association Brian Tardiff Bursary Award of $750.00 is presented annually to the senior hockey player having "demonstrated outstanding academic achievement while pursuing her passion for hockey”.

This year's recipient played for the U18AA Lady Royals hockey team. She started playing hockey at the age of 4 and has been involved with the Cornwall Girls Hockey for 13 years. She volunteered with the CGHA Tykes program for many years and absolutely enjoyed working with our youngest players.

Her U18AA coach stated that she has earned a reputation as a hardworking and determined player who has the ability to play forward or defence. Her guidance teacher described her as a model student who excels academically, socially and athletically. When faced with a difficult task she would never shy away from the challenge. She is a member of the Student Prom committee and has helped with the organization of many fundraising activities for the upcoming graduation event.

As member of the U18AA Lady Royals, her supportive nature, enthusiasm, passion for hockey and academic excellence made her an ideal choice for the Brian Tardiff Bursary Award.

This year's winner will be attending Carleton University in the Bachelor of Arts Honours program.
