ODWHA Elizabeth Stein Memorial Bursary Award 2021
Elizabeth Stein was a school teacher, and started off as a manager for her daughter’s hockey team, her career as a dedicated conscientious hockey volunteer began.
She became part of the Nepean Girls Hockey Association and then served on the executive of the Ottawa District Women’s Hockey Association for several years, and then in an effort to be in a better position to help and develop girls’ hockey, she served as Eastern Ontario Regional Director for OWHA and subsequently became the Treasurer for OWHA.
While part of the Ottawa District Women’s Hockey Association, Mrs. Stein also served on the initial board of the National Capital Competitive Program as competitive director and was always available to help or give guidance to any other association that asked for it.
As part of the Ottawa District Women’s Hockey Association, Mrs. Stein was terrific at instituting new ideas and as our first Youth Competitive Director, encountered many challenges in competitive groupings which she did with a smile and great effort. She helped initiate such things as guidelines for coach selection committees, and mandatory meetings for ODWHA teams to ensure that they received all of the information necessary to aid them through a successful hockey season.
Mrs. Stein helped with any special event that ODWHA put on such as Nationals, Three Nations Cup, Central Canada Cup and special Showcase games.
Mrs. Stein brought a wealth of knowledge, an amazing amount of energy patience, compassion and always had a positive attitude. She was a terrific ambassador for female hockey and she particularly enjoyed watching the younger girls develop over the years.
The ODWHA in conjunction with the selection committee congratulate the winners of the Elizabeth Stein Memorial Award!
Applications will be accepted until March 31st. Click here to apply.
